I’ll Still Be Bumping Yeat’s New Album In The Afterlife

Yeat has time-and-time-again pushed the boundaries of flows, beats and vocal styles that can be considered hip hop. His latest album Afterlyfe proves that rap is as alivë as it ever was, with fresh beats produced by BNYX and impressive features. The “pissy yonky” rapper brings addictive lyrics such as "All my demons call me, yeah they call me, I said "hell yeah" on the chorus in 'No Morë Talk'. Beats and melodies sound increasingly psychedelic and atmospheric, giving Yeat's iconic adlibs as much room to shine as possible.  The California rapper has come a long way from his 'Wake Up Call' days. Many Yeat's fans, however, have criticized his move toward risky, cinematic production in contrast with his more simple, energetic beats of the past. It's good to see Yeat move in this direction, although it would be cool to see an album in a similar style to Drake's 'Care Package', in which Yeat could remaster a lot of his early singles an...

Celebrating the 27th Anniversary of Jay-Z's 'Dead Presidents II'

It's been a wild thirty years for hip hop, and oftentimes it's crazy to look back and see just how far music has evolved since its envelopment of pop culture in the late 80s. Jay-Z's song "Dead Presidents II" is a quintessential classic hip hop track that encompasses why the genre began in the first place. "Dead Presidents II" is a song by Jay-Z, released in 1996 as the lead single for his debut album "Reasonable Doubt." The song is a gritty and introspective exploration of the lifestyle of a drug dealer, focusing on themes of wealth, power, and criminality. It opens with a sample from Nas's "The World is Yours," which sets the tone for the song's melancholic and reflective mood. Jay-Z raps about his experiences as a drug dealer, describing the money, power, and respect that came with the trade, as well as the violence, paranoia, and emotional toll it took on him. He also reflects on the futility of the drug game, as the money...

This is the rapper's first full-length album in three years, and it has been received somewhat positively by both fans and critics. TYO's lackadaisical style is well-continued with this project, and it's something fans of the artist will likely enjoy.      The album opens with all-new ideas. The first few songs have spacey, trance-like beats with psychedelic transitions in between melodies. MadeinTYO heavily experiments with melodic, autotuned vocals, and it pays off on songs like 'Mobbing Through' and 'So Many'. Songs such as 'Stunt' show an ability to adapt to many of the newest evolutions in hip hop production. There's no lack of variety throughout the project, although certain flows feel stale including verses on 'Must Be Nice' and 'Jazzy'.      Deeper into the album, certain songs feel heavily influenced by older work from other artist...

Comethazine's Newest Album Is A Solid Continuation

St. Louis rapper Comethazine has always stuck to his guns throughout his career. Beginning in his SoundCloud days, the rapper has always preferred working with himself and keeping big-name features off of his albums in an effort to remain in a lane of his own. Comethazine's newest album, Bawskee 5, is exactly what you'd expect it might sound like. Packed with intense, hard-hitting production and obnoxious, offensive bars that fans of his music have come to love, the album comes across as nothing more than the natural progression of Comethazine's sound. The rapper's quality beat-choice helps conduct the high-energy atmosphere that Comethazine thrives in, and added vocal effects only enhance the madness. It's nice to see a few of the songs that have been teased over the past couple years are finally getting album placements, including the highly-anticipated single 500 Hours. Overall, Bawskee 5 is a great continuation of the artist's sound. Each song is reckless an...
